At Be Leadership, giving back isn’t just part of our mission, it’s woven into the ways we show up in the world. One of the ways we do this is through our commitment to donating a portion of our profits to purpose-led organizations. This year, we’ve moved to a quarterly donation model to support community partners that connect directly to the people in our team, and our latest contribution goes to an organization doing truly meaningful work in Winchester, UK: Unit 12.
What is Unit 12?
Unit 12 is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit community interest company with a clear and powerful mission: to create a community hub that delivers positive social impact through a sustainable model, benefiting the local community through a family of like-minded organizations working together.
Based in Winnall, in a building owned by Winchester City Council, Unit 12 is more than just a physical space. It’s a place where people come to connect, learn, and grow. By building strong links with local support services and working alongside professional performing arts organizations, Unit 12 provides meaningful learning opportunities for everyone who walks through its doors.
At the heart of their work is a belief in building and changing what community can look like. Unit 12 is passionate about creating activities and opportunities that bring together people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to participate side by side, not separately.
Their vision is to offer a wide range of activities that allow people to collaborate through the arts, sports, youth work, and support networks, all in service of personal and social wellbeing. They aim to be a flexible, safe, and welcoming environment where people of all walks of life can meet, learn, and develop new skills. In short, they envision Unit 12 as a thriving hub of community for everyone. You can learn more about their work at https://unit-12.org.
Team Spotlight: Elizabeth Rushton
We’re especially proud to support Unit 12 because of the connection through our own Elizabeth Rushton, who serves as a Volunteer Director on their board. Liz has lived in Winchester for over 20 years with her husband and daughter, and her dedication to community wellbeing is an inspiration.
Liz first got involved with Unit 12 in May 2025, beginning as a volunteer in their community café, a space that serves not just hot drinks and tasty food, but friendship, care, and belonging. With nearly two decades of experience as an independent HR consultant, Liz brings strategic HR insight to strengthen Unit 12’s internal team and support its ongoing growth. Her commitment reflects exactly what we honor at Be Leadership: leadership that serves others first.
Be Leadership’s Donation: Supporting Purpose-Led Impact
At Be Leadership, we donate 5% of our profits each month to purpose-led organizations. This year, in celebration of deeper connection and meaningful impact, we are donating to support organizations that have a direct tie to our people and their communities. We are delighted that our latest donation has gone to Unit 12, an organization that embodies connection, compassion, and community resilience. We’re proud to stand alongside their work, and to honor Liz’s ongoing contribution as a volunteer leader.
Communities are strengthened not by chance, but by intentional action. Whether it’s through a warm meal shared with a neighbor, a safe space for people to gather, or the thoughtful leadership of volunteers like Liz, organizations like Unit 12 make community life richer and more connected.
